Flood protection of the Opole city
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The improvement of the flood protection of Opole and the Upper Oder River was completed with commissioning of hydraulic facilities on the Mlynowka Canal, which are to prevent Opole from the recurrence of the flood. At this time Mlynowka proved to be the weak point in the Opole flood protection system, and from its current the Oder River waters flooded the Isle of Pasieka and the Old Town residential district.
TECHNICAL DATA:
- improvement of the flow capacity and reconstruction of the Oder River bed on the section of approx. 3 km,
- transformation of the three-span Opole Weir with sector gates into the flap weir of 1650 m3/s flow capacity,
- construction of the new inlet structure to the Mlynowka Canal, as well as the flood gate at the outlet of the Mlynowka
- renovation and reconstruction of the historic weir and 19th-century navigation lock
