Wióry Flood Protection Reservoir on the Swiślina River

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The main purpose of the project was to serve as a water supply for the dynamically developing steel plant in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski. However, in the course of a long investment process, the function of the planned reservoir changed – from the water supply to flood protection and recreation, with simultaneous power generation based on created water head and stabilization of the minimum flow during droughts. Approved solutions allow also treating the reservoir as a potential, prospective source of water supply for agglomerations located downstream.

TECHNICAL DATA:

  • total capacity of 35 million m3, including a flood reserve of 19 million m3
  • the surface of the reservoir at the maximum water level reaches 408 ha
  • the earth dam with clay core and a reinforced concrete control gallery, classified as a hydraulic engineering structure of the 2nd class with 370,000 m3 dam volume
  • Discharge structures consist of a bottom outlet and four span overflow 24 m wide in total
  • the underground hydropower plant includes two turbosets with installed power capacity of 180 KW and one turboset with installed power capacity of about 50 KW

SCOPE OF SERVICES:

  • comprehensive technical documentation
  • physical modeling studies
  • construction supervision on behalf of the author as-built drawings
